About us

Who we are.

A campaign built by artists, for artists.

A Fair Cut is a grassroots push to establish a practical standard for venue deals in independent performing arts. For too long, artists have signed contracts they couldn't fully interrogate: room hire that takes a disproportionate cut, ticketing fees counted before percentages, merch commissions on sales the venue never supported.

We're not pointing fingers. Most venues genuinely love the work they present. But love doesn't pay the bills. We believe the industry is ready for a shared baseline: a clear, fair framework that both artists and venues can build trust around.

We started in Melbourne, but the problem isn't local. We'll start collecting data city by city to build a global picture of the state of the industry, and making the case, loudly, for something better.

We're a small team atm (one (1), Lukas Meintjes) but we will grow!
